Need for democracy and accountability

Quaid-i-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah did a great favor to this nation that he fought a great and passionate struggle to give an independent country to the Muslims of the subcontinent, who were deprived of freedom. As a result of the long struggle, Pakistan came into existence.

Strengthening the justice system in Pakistan was the first priority of the Governor-General of the country, Quaid-e-Azam, but after the establishment of the country, Quaid lived only a year and passed away.

The purpose of the establishment of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan was to provide Muslims with a land where they could live their lives freely according to the principles of Islam and for this a democratic system was chosen, that is, the people elect their rulers through voting.

Accountability is a must in a democracy, but justice or accountability has never been allowed to flourish across the country. The rights of the poor and the middle class have been violated in every era and the punishment of crimes has always fallen to the underprivileged. Pakistan’s justice system rarely punishes the rich.

The latest example of this is the killing of a man’s entire family in Balochistan. Similarly, the resignation of Chairman NAB can be considered as the latest example. Aftab Sultan given some indications that he was being pressured.

Whether it is Karo-Kari tradition in Sindh, the rule of the Chaudhrys in Punjab or the rampant crime in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the cycle of persecution in the country does not stop but is increasing with each passing day. Years pass for justice from an atrocity and during this time hundreds of more stories of atrocity are generated.

The current Shehbaz Sharif government has made the National Accountability Bureau a servant of the house of rich politicians by bringing the NAB Ordinance.

Legislation is not the name of making rules and regulations and applying them to the people at will, but it is a moment of thought for the members who are elected by the votes of the people and sit in the assemblies to think about the laborer whose labor is accumulated. Earnings of money and blood sweat are subject to taxes.

There is a need to empower the accountability institutions and the officers who sit on the benches of justice and free them from all kinds of political pressure. The system of accountability should be so strong that no landlord or vassal could dare to violate human rights.
