The Ukraine war deepfakes

Munir Ahmed by Munir Ahmed

Reading Time: 3 mins read

In the 10 months of the Ukraine war, the US and NATO nations have increased their military assistance to Kyiv to make up for Ukraine’s losses. By December 2022, the total US and NATO members military aid to Ukraine touched $97 billion. It is more than what the US abandoned in Afghanistan.

Dr. Nan Tian, a Senior Researcher with the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) on the Military Expenditure and Arms Production Programme, mentioned in his research piece “20 years of US military aid to Afghanistan” (22 September 2021) that: “The US government disbursed almost $73 billion in military aid to Afghanistan between 2001 and 2020, which was almost 20 times the amount of Afghanistan’s own military expenditure. Despite the USA having provided the Afghan National Defense and Security Forces (ANDSF) with equipment, training, services, funding for salaries, infrastructure and more, it took the Taliban a little over four months to take over Afghanistan and control Kabul after the announcement in April 2021 that NATO’s Resolute Support Mission would end.”

Heavy military shipments to Afghanistan were grabbed by the then Mujahideen and later on by Talibans. They used it for their terrorist interventions against the suppliers of the artillery – the US and NATO, and also its proxy fighter Pakistan. The Taliban militants are using the same snatched weapons even today against the US former proxy – Pakistan. A similar situation has arisen in Ukraine in just ten months.

The independent observers and the Russian authorities have highlighted the situation time again. Seems nothing bothers the US and its allies. Even the UN Security Council is deeply silent on it, giving the benefit of doubt to the deep fakes consistently coming out of the Ukraine war. Quite alarming. No one can predict where the heavy military shipments to Ukraine will end up tomorrow.

Russia has reported that “the Ukraine war zone housed the US and the NATO staff officials, artillerymen, and other professionals. In support of the Ukrainian armed forces, more than 500 US and NATO spacecraft, including more than 70 of purely military and the remainder dual-purpose, are in operation. The United States and its allies are devoting a lot of resources to influencing Russia and its allies psychologically and with disinformation. Russia and its allies now fully comprehend the true nature of the so-called ‘free Western press’. On orders from Washington, thousands of ‘phony reports’ about the events in Ukraine are published every day using the same templates. This is supported by thousands of printed periodicals, hundreds of television companies, and media sources on social networks and instant messengers.”

The Western media’s complete silence about the war crimes being carried out by the Ukrainian military is the height of cynicism. The Neo-Nazism and Kyiv’s criminal dictatorship are both being exalted at the same time. The Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) terrorist tactics are being justified as acts of self-defense or as Russian military operations. The Ukraine’s Nationalists are reported to have been acting as the barrier forces. The Russian media has been consistently reporting the shooting of AFU soldiers who were escaping the combat missions every day.

After using the entire US and EU media against Russia, the rise of deepfakes against Russia seems to be another war tool to justify the US and the NATO heavy military shipments to Ukraine. Will it work actually? However, it didn’t work in Afghanistan in the four decades of the US and NATO’s presence neither in Iraq, Syria or Libya despite all the deepfakes and western media propaganda. Do I need to mention Vietnam too?
