Will the assemblies be dissolved or not?

The political system of any country consists on a layer-by-layer distribution of powers, positions and institutions in which some elements are extremely important, some very important and many less important.

The importance of the Assembly and the Senate in the political system is considered to be very important in terms of legislation where major decisions are made for the destiny of the country. The need for legislation arises because old laws may become obsolete with the passage of time.

For example, the current law in Pakistan is called the Constitution of 1973, but after numerous amendments, this law has reached a point where it can protect the basic human rights of the people, but there are still many loopholes in it.

After all the preamble, let’s come to the point which has become the center of political activities of all the leaders today, that whether Imran Khan will dissolve the assemblies or not. Two days ago, Imran Khan announced that the Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assemblies will be dissolved on December 23.

Along with announcing this, former Prime Minister Imran Khan also said that PTI will send its 123 members to the National Assembly for confirmation of resignations. All these things were said by Imran Khan while addressing the nation on video link from his residence Zaman Park.

Imran Khan may be the first Prime Minister of the country who had to say in the past that the Army Chief is under me because I am the Prime Minister and of course he did this according to the country’s constitution, because the country’s constitution makes all other institution subordinate of the parliament.

The distribution of powers under the constitution is so complicated that in some cases the President of the State, in some cases the Prime Minister, in some cases the Army Chief and in some cases the Chief Justice of Pakistan have such important powers that distinguish him from other heads of the institutions.

If we examine the country’s politics, how effective this complex division of powers proved to be for the dictatorship that the military rulers imposed martial law on the country for years, suspended the constitution and made many arbitrary decisions.

Now, Imran Khan wants to put the final nail in the coffin of the federal government by dissolving the provincial assemblies, because interestingly, the current PDM government is as weak as Imran Khan’s own government was.

PTI workers and supporters distributed sweets and staged dances parties all over the country when Imran Khan became the Prime Minister in 2018, but at that time no one knew that this government standing on the crutches of allies could not complete its tenure.

The PDM’s government is facing the same problem today. But the question is that whether Imran Khan is only threatening or he can also dissolve the assemblies, the constitution says that the ruling political party having a majority in the assembly can dissolve the assembly.

However, Imran Khan’s dissolution of the assemblies may not reach the destination of the general elections, which may lead to a new political crisis in the country. It is necessary that all the political leaders sit on the negotiation table to solve the political and economic problems of the country.
