World population reaches 8 billion
The global population reached 8 billion in November 2022, and India is projected to surpass China as the world’s most populous country in 2023, according to World Population Prospects 2022.
Iranian women’s massive protest
Iranian women led mass protests in Iran in September after a 22-year-old woman died while in the custody of the country’s morality police for violating the country’s headscarf law.
US court overturns abortion rights
Protests spread across the US after the overturned Abortion rights activists across the country protested after the US Supreme Court overturned the constitutional right to abortion.
Russia attacks Ukraine
In February 2022, Russia invaded Ukraine in a major escalation of the Russo-Ukrainian War, which had begun in 2014. The invasion resulted in tens of thousands of deaths on both sides and caused Europe’s largest refugee with an estimated 8 million people being displaced within the country by late May as well as 7.8 million Ukrainians fleeing the country as of 8 November 2022.
