The ongoing political conflict in the federal capital took another turn when the PTI filed a reference against the former President of Pakistan and PPP Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari.
In the reference submitted to Raja Pervez Ashraf, Speaker of the National Assembly, PTI demanded the disqualification of the former President claiming that Asif Zardari appropriated three vehicles illegally from the Toshakha during the PPP tenure.
Ironically, a similar reference was filed against PTI Chairman and former Prime Minister Imran Khan, in which he was accused of receiving gifts from Toshakhana. As it stands, the current regime desires to disqualify Imran Khan on the basis of Toshakhan case, while PTI wants to do the same to Asif Ali Zardari and other leaders.
In the past we have seen one former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s disqualification, although it seems the current regime has been trying to pave the way for Nawaz’s Sharif return with amendments in the NAB ordinance 1999 is a step in that direction.However, the question remains: what is the end game of these disqualifications? How many more politicians shall b disqualified so that this country may move forward?
PLM-N and PPP, PTI are all equally to blame. Though they are all part of the parliament, they do everything in their power to disqualify others from the highest legislative body of the country. It seems both the politicians and their policies are steeped in hypocrisy. Since both the government and opposition were elected for lawmaking, ideally, they should be occupied with debating legislations and finding ways to improve the lives of the masses- instead of wrangling in petty politics.
It is high time that our politicians should realize their obligations and solve problems through dialogue instead of taking the judiciary route. Focus on inflation and unemployment, and the numerous issues in the health and education sectors, are a must if we are to build a better tomorrow for Pakistan.
