Salute to Pak Army

Shahid Shahnawaz by Shahid Shahnawaz

Reading Time: 2 mins read

September 6, is known as Pakistan’s Defense Day in the country’s history. It reminds us of the 1965 Indo-Pak war. This is the day when the enemy attacked the motherland and the Shaheens taught a befitting lesson that will be remembered for the rest of their life.

From a military point of view, September 6 is a proud day for the Pakistan Army when a country many times bigger in size of its manpower attacked the nation in the dark of the night and then the Pakistan Army bravely countered this cowardly attack and defeated the enemy and grit its teeth.

India also faced defeat at the global level. The war of 1965 proved that the war is not only between the forces of two countries but if the people support the forces of their country, the impossible can be made possible. Even an enemy many times bigger than oneself can be easily defeated.

Not only the men of the Pakistan Army but also the people stood tall to face the enemy and give the worst defeat in the war to it. Citizens belonging to all walks of life proved that the Pakistani nation is nothing less than a leaden wall despite the lack of resources.

During the reign of Field Marshal Ayub Khan, the soldiers of the Pakistan Army fought against India with utmost bravery and courage and with their professionalism not only stopped the enemy from advancing but also forced them to retreat. Earlier, the Indian Commander-in-Chief was dreaming of organizing a drinking party in the gymnasium of Lahore.

Major Raja Aziz Bhatti was martyred in the war of 1965. Major Aziz Bhatti and his subordinates decided to hold on to their position to stop the enemy’s relentless attacks.

During the intervening night of September 9 and 10, 1965, the enemy deployed its entire battalion in the Aziz Bhatti area. The officers ordered Major Aziz Bhatti to return to his side of the BRB Canal, however, Major Aziz Bhatti drove the enemy who had occupied the canal bank out of the area.

Major Aziz Bhatti remained there until all his men and vehicles crossed the canal. And organized his company. Major Aziz Bhatti continued to respond to the attacks of the enemy till the end. At the same time, the enemy from a tank fired a shell at Raja Aziz Bhatti standing in front of it.

Major Aziz Bhatti was martyred on the spot due to the fire. On September 26, President Field Marshal Ayub Khan awarded 94 officers and soldiers of the Pakistan Army, including Major Aziz Bhatti, with various medals, including the Nishan-e-Haider, for their bravery in defense of the country.

The biggest issue between Pakistan and India is the freedom of Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, which Pakistan calls an integral part of India. So far, 10 children of the nation, including Major Raja Aziz Bhatti, have received the honor of Nishan-e-Haider while defending the motherland during various wars.

Every year on September 6, Pakistan Defense Day is celebrated to salute the soldiers and martyrs of the Pakistan Army for defending the homeland.
