Avoiding interference in politics

Director General ISPR in his recent statement said that Pakistan Army does not want to interfere in politics, nor will it and he also strongly condemned the campaign against martyrs and Pakistan Army on social media.

In his Twitter message on Saturday, the President of the State condemned the social media campaign for not attending the funeral of the martyrs and in his statement highlighted the place of martyrs in the light of Islam and clarified that he has the utmost respect for the martyrs.

According to news circulating on Pakistani social media, a former official of PTI has confessed to running an anti-army campaign on social media and apologized for his misadventure, while the father of the said official also issued a statement in favor of the Pakistan Army.

If we look at the political history of Pakistan, the country was ruled by the army for a long time, which affected the intentions of those who raised the slogans of democracy and they criticized the army at different times, but today’s issue is a thing of the past. It is the complete opposite.

The situation today is that the Pakistan Army clearly issues a statement that we have nothing to do with politics. Requests are made by the political parties to the Army Chief and other officials to please interfere a little in politics otherwise the politicians will become unrestrained, however, Pakistan Army has learned a lot from the traditions of the past.

DG ISPR clarified that Pakistan Army is following the policy of avoiding interference in politics. Then what is the reason that Imran Khan seems to raise questions about the appointment of the Army Chief? In his recent statement, Imran Khan said that the best officer of the Pakistan Army should be the Army Chief. So do they have reservations about the appointment of the current army chief?

Undoubtedly, the Army Chief is a position on the appointment of which Pakistani politicians always want their monopoly. The Pakistan Army supported the government in every period because as a national institution, the duty of the Pakistan Army was to support the performance of the government and not to criticize the government along with the opposition, which it did well.

However, earlier, other parties including Pakistan Muslim League (N) and the Pakistan People’s Party were seen criticizing the Pakistan Army and now Tehreek-e-Insaf seems to be following this path. The question is whether the Pakistan Army has stopped participating in politics. When will they stop dragging the Pakistan Army into these matters instead of solving the problems themselves?

There is a need for politicians to find solutions to their problems within their own spheres. It will be better if the judiciary and the Pakistan Army are not dragged into these matters.
