The Taliban have issued orders to stop issuing driving licenses to women in the Afghan city of Herat.
It is not uncommon for women to drive in Herat. This city is considered to be a more modern city than other cities. Where driving schools operate under the Institute of Traffic Management.
However, the Taliban has not yet commented or confirmed the ban, with local media and heads of driving schools saying they had been verbally ordered to do so. The head of Herat’s information and culture department said no legal order had been issued. But the Taliban administration issues many orders verbally.
A 29-year-old Adeela Adeel, who owns a driving school said that the Taliban do not want the younger generation to have the opportunities that their mothers had. They have been told that neither driving lessons nor licenses should be issued to women.

Afghan women said that these are the factors that prove that the Taliban want to take away the very few rights that women have. It may be recalled that in August two last year, US forces left Afghanistan after 20 years, since then the Taliban government has been established all over Afghanistan.
Since then, many issues have arisen, especially with regard to women’s rights, in which girls’ schools have not yet opened.
