ISLAMABAD: After the no-confidence motion issue, the country’s politics has been taken by storm from Sunday when, Prime Minister Imran Khan, in a public rally at Parade Ground, revealed that a “foreign conspiracy” has been hatched to topple his government and showed a “threatening letter” which is also being dubbed as lettergate, to the public.
Since the revelation, the government said that it will not share the letter with the public and media but is ready to share it off the record as it is a matter of secrecy and foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi said that the same letter has been shared with the military leadership.
Today, the premier has announced to share the letter with the senior journalists and allied parties. Here we will try to figure out what is the possible content of the letter and from where it has been received by Prime Minister Imran Khan and the stance of the government on the issue since its revelation.
What PM Imran said in Parade Ground rally?
On March 27, Prime Minister Imran Khan revealed that “foreign elements” are involved in the attempts to topple his government and said, “some of our own people” are being used for this.
The premier, during what PTI labelled as one of its “biggest” rallies in its history at the Parade Ground in Islamabad, flashed a letter before the public, saying that he has “written evidence” that “money has been pouring in from abroad,” while “some of our people are being used to topple the government.”
He had said that for months, “plotting and planning is being carried out to influence the foreign policy of Pakistan from outside.”
‘Letter cannot be shown publicly due to ‘sensitive nature’
A day earlier, Minister for Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives Asad Umar had revealed that PM Imran Khan was ready to share the “threat letter” with Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial.
Umar had said only a select few people in the civil-military leadership have seen the letter due to its “sensitivity”.
The planning minister had said there was a need to explain the “letter” that the prime minister had read out in the March 27 rally, but it could not be shown publicly due to its “sensitive nature”.

A top government official confirmed on the condition of anonymity that the prime minister’s claims are based on a telegram sent by Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United States (US) Asad Majeed Khan.
The official said that Islamabad received the telegram on March 7, just a day before the joint Opposition submitted a no-confidence motion against the premier in the National Assembly.
“This telegram message is real. Although its contents have not been shared, the message was that as long as the incumbent government is in power, there can be no substantial change in relations,” he said. The official was apparently referring to US-Pakistan relations since the letter allegedly originated from Washington. The cloud of speculations will be clear today when the letter will be shared with the senior journalists and allied parties and only then, we will be able to identify, who threatened Prime Minister Imran Khan.
