The political temperature is on the in Pakistan, especially after the opposition has submitted a no-confidence move against Prime Minister Imran Khan. The ruling party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has announced to show its power numbers at the Islamabad’s D-Chowk on March 27, while the opposition alliance from the platform of Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) has also announced to flex its muscles in Islamabad at the Constitutional Avenue on March 23.
It is being feared that the political temperature may lead to any disaster or clash between the workers of PTI and the opposition parties, as we saw a trailer recently at the Parliament Lodges.
PTI choose D-Chowk to show its power numbers
The ruling Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) on Monday decided to stage a “mammoth” public meeting at D-Chowk on March 27, warning lawmakers that they will have to wade through a crowd of ‘one million’ to enter Parliament House for casting their vote on the no-trust motion against Prime Minister Imran Khan.
However, one of the ruling coalition partners expressed strong reservation over the planned power show of the PTI and urged PM Khan during his first visit to the Parliament Lodges since coming to power to “stop doing politics of confrontation”.
The decision to gather PTI workers at D-Chowk on March 27 was made in the ruling party’s core committee meeting, which was presided over by Mr Khan. Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed after the meeting told the media that the prime minister had directed the committee members to gather a crowd of one million people at D-Chowk.
PDM to flex muscles on March 23
Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief and Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) chairman Maulana Fazlur Rehman on Monday called on the entire nation to march towards the federal capital on March 23 for an anti-government long march.
Addressing the media after the meeting of the joint opposition in Islamabad, Maulana Fazlur Rehman asked the workers of joint opposition parties to reach Islamabad on March 23 for a massive power show.
The PDM chief said that we will hold a historic rally from the doors of Parliament house to Shahra-e-Dastoor through which the members of the parliament would be provided a safe passage to reach the House to attend the parliament session.
Rangers, FC to takeover Red Zone’s security
The interior ministry has decided to hand over the security of Islamabad’s Red Zone to Rangers and FC from March 20 to April 2, sources said.
Well-informed sources said the interior ministry has decided to summon Rangers in Islamabad’s Red Zone from March 20 to April 2 to maintain law and order.
As many as 2,000 personnel of Rangers and FC will be deployed.
No-confidence saga
Both the government and the opposition have been issuing fiery statements against each other and challenging to hold massive public gatherings rather than going into Parliament for the legal proceedings on the move.
As per the law, the NA speaker is bound to summon the session of the house within 14 days of the submission of the requisition but seems that the government is deliberately delaying the session to gain the numbers intact.
