If this situation continues and the United States does not lift sanctions, the death toll is likely to be so high that the world cannot even estimate.
Several UN agencies, including the World Food Programme, are facing difficulties in transferring their funds to Afghanistan. Financial sanctions have not only made it extremely difficult for aid to reach the people, they could also hasten the looming destruction of the entire system in Afghanistan with catastrophic consequences for the region and beyond.
Under these circumstances, the United States should at least lift its sanctions on food and medicine for the sake of humanitarian sympathy, otherwise, history will not be able to forget this attitude of America. Since August 15, all funding and facilities available to Afghanistan from foreign countries have been abruptly cut off. As a result, a crisis has arisen which is beyond the control of the Taliban government.
Should the United Nations be forced to think that the US and its allies are taking revenge on the Afghan people? Recently, WFP Country Director in Afghanistan has admitted that Afghanistan is facing a “tsunami of hunger” because of a shortage of funds that’s needed to keep the supply of food intact.
Militants in Afghanistan are taking advantage of the growing instability and economic hardship, which will directly affect regional peace and stability. The United States is reluctant to provide assistance to Afghanistan to end the humiliating defeat. It is being speculated that if the United States resumes aid to Afghanistan, the humiliation for the American government will increase.
Another reason for Afghanistan’s increasing problems is its geographical importance and it is believed that the US wants limited instability in Afghanistan to curb China’s growing influence in the region. In the event of complete instability, the United States will not want the land of Afghanistan to become a safe haven for various terrorist groups.
The current situation in Pakistan is also a matter of concern that will affect CPEC. Other rival countries are also promoting terrorism in Pakistan to harm CPEC and sabotage peace. Apparently, the main point of destabilizing China in US foreign policy is possible only if there is such chaos in Afghanistan and Pakistan that the most important part of China’s Belt and Road Initiative, the CPEC is damaged.
A few days ago, the nominee of the US Central Command, Lieutenant General Michael E Kurilla said that it was considered necessary to save Afghanistan from complete instability because it can further increase dangers for the United States and its allies.
After the US withdrawal from Afghanistan, General Michael E Kurilla described the relations with Pakistan as very complicated and said that the US Central Command’s relationship with Pakistan is an important one. He also called China’s growing influence in Pakistan a serious challenge to the United States.
Regarding enhancing relations with Pakistan, General Michael E Kurilla told the Central Committee that he would be able to assess the nature of his relationship with Pakistan after taking over the command.
During President Putin’s recent visit to China, Russia also fully supported China’s principled position. This suggests that Pakistan and a few other countries in the region may be affected in alignment of China and Russia against the United States. In such a scenario, Pakistan needs to take a bold step so that its national security and interests can be protected.
