The United States is refusing to acknowledge its diminishing influence and failures whether in Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria, or Libya. The denial is giving an impression of whether the US wants to maintain its status in the region. It certainly wants to retain influence in Taiwan, increase its military prowess and also keep pressure on Ukraine. At the moment, China and Russia have an edge over the US in global influence.
On a regional level, Russia is increasingly trying to gain a foothold, unlike America. Israel’s presence in the region cannot be ignored which has the complete backing of the United States. The dynamics of regional and global politics are changing so rapidly that analysts and other countries are busy reviewing policies and adjusting priorities on a regular basis.
The US and NATO forces are increasing pressure on Ukraine against Russian dominance. However, the fact remains that Russia cannot withdraw from Ukraine or else NATO forces will take control and install their missiles systems. This will threaten Russian interests and impact regional peace.
The United States, on the other hand, is trying to gain a foothold by strengthening Taiwan in order to achieve its goal of containing China’s growing influence. A recent example is the US-Australia-UK deal which should raise alarm as it threatens regional peace. The military pact is an attempt to reduce the role of China by proliferating nuclear weapons in the region i.e. nuclear-powered submarines and equipment.
Under these circumstances, China will have no choice but to increase its competitive strength to thwart any misadventure by United States and its allies.
The ‘Quad’, which also includes India, is also part of this alliance which apparently aims to promote trade and economic cooperation but is rather a military ploy.
The US has also accused Iran of recently shooting down a drone in the region and consolidating its position. The US can also target the rest of the regional countries in due course. Recently an Iranian oil tanker was attacked by five boats in which about 8 to 9 people were killed. Iran has blamed the United States for the attack. Given the current situation, it seems that if the ongoing nuclear negotiations underway in Geneva fails, Iran has the option to mobilise its sleeper cells in the region and target the opponent’s installations.
Pakistan will have to understand the regional ramifications if the United States attempts to invade or occupy Chabahar. This will certainly affect Gwadar port which is epicentre of CPEC projects and the Chinese will not remain silent if their interests are harmed. Pakistan would be caught between these two giants in case of any misadventure and there will be consequences. We have to prepare ourselves for all situations.
