Nowadays, not only in Pakistan but all over the world, due to the political economy, inflation and poverty are increasing. People, who claim to end poverty, always look out for their own interests, whether it is the International Monetary Fund (IMF) or Pakistan’s politicians. Everybody is pushing for GDP and people want to work in the industry as much as possible.
In the past, GDP growth depended on the development of agriculture, but over time, agricultural growth slowed and people around the world turned to industries. There are three cases in Pakistan: Rich, poor and middle class, but political economists always make policies with the rich in mind. Governments in Pakistan invest more in machines and pay less attention to human education.
Pakistan is also one of the countries whose agricultural livelihood is declining day by day, due to which people from villages are migrating to cities thinking that their lives will be better. It is not the fault of the villagers but of our politicians who fail to deliver the opportunities and comforts to our farmers.
On the one hand, the government says that we are short of resources and on the other hand, it borrows money from all over the world to invest in industries that cause environmental pollution as well as problems. Government-level economists can improve the economy if they first work on their own existing resources and formulate policies that benefit the people.
The benefit to the people will be such that when water and fertilizer are regularly supplied to the villages as well as a proper mechanism should be formulated for the purchasing of farmer’s crop. In this way, the prices of many food items will come down to a reasonable level. This will not only benefit the farmer but also the common man.
Today’s farmer is less indebted to the banks and more indebted to the landlords. This is due to the poor performance of the central bank which fails to provide loans to the farmers easily. The government has created a farmer’s portal and asks them to send their grievances here, while ignoring the fact that farmers are not that much literate.
The political economists formulate policies only for the benefit of the aristocracy, whether they are industrialists or big landowners. As long as the political economy continues to grow, Pakistan will further become poorer.
