ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) once again clarified that there would be no further extension in the deadline for filing tax returns for the fiscal year 2021 beyond October 15.
FBR spokesperson Asad Tahir Cheema in a statement said that only two days were left for filing the tax returns and urged people to do the same as soon as possible. He said that the FBR online portal was working smoothly round-the-clock while the capacity of IT system had also been improved.
The board had extended the last date of Septemebr 30 due to technical issues on the final day and urged all individuals and companies to file their tax returns well before October 15, 2021.
The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has so far received as many as 2.213 million returns with additional tax collection of Rs41.895 billion up to October 12. The total returns filed with the online system till October 12 were 2.213m with additional tax deposits of Rs41.895bn.
The FBR campaign resulted in immense traffic of taxpayers to the Iris website and for the first time ever over 1.8m returns were filed within 90 days ending on Sept 30. In three days from Oct 1-3, the FBR reportedly received around 600,000 returns from all over Pakistan.

A day earlier, the FBR revealed that the number of tax return filers has exceeded 2.2 million. FBR spokesperson said as of October 12, a total of 2,213,286 people had filed their tax returns.
Minister for Finance Shaukat Tarin had decided to extend the date after constant demands from the business community. The tax collection body had received several applications for the extension of the deadline of filing income tax returns.
The Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) confirmed that the finance minister had given a 15-day extension to people and businessmen to file tax returns. The business delegation highlighted the issues faced by the tax filers and also shared their concerns regarding other taxes as well.
