ISLAMABAD: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Anti-Corruption Department has arrested a man accused of taking money posing as a fake officer of the Prime Minister’s House.
According to the FIA, Mustafa Ansari used to portray himself as a section officer at the Prime Minister’s House. He was also the self-proclaimed chairman of the so-called National Peace Council for Inter-Fifth Harmony Pakistan which collected membership fees in various districts.
FIA said the accused Mustafa Ansari used to take money from the people and issue fake NOCs of green number plates for private vehicles on fake letter pads of the PM’s office.
Official documents and fake letter pads have been recovered from his custody at his office in Sector F-11, FIA officials said. They also recovered a large number of National Peace Council membership cards and photographs with various personalities.
FIA officials also said the suspect had set up a fake website of the National Peace Council which has been blocked by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA).
He had also registered called the National Peace Council in 2015 which was cancelled by the Election Commission of Pakistan in 2017. The ECP had issued a notice to the accused for non-submission of financial statements for the last three years.
The suspect, who hailed from Faisalabad, targeted people from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and nearby areas. Officials further said that the accused embezzled money from more than 300,000 people in the name of party membership. A case has been registered against the suspect and further investigation has been started.
