ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Friday launched ‘Roshan Apna Ghar’ scheme for overseas Pakistanis to acquire property through their Roshan Digital Accounts, terming it a game-changer.
Addressing the launching ceremony of the programme, the premier said, “This initiative will help us attract a lot of money because Pakistan needs dollars and overseas Pakistanis are the only source to decrease the gap between the country’s exports and imports.”
He noted that Pakistan faced problems of current account deficit because of the high volume of imports, hoping that the new scheme would help narrow the import-export gap. “The initiative would help the government draw potential investment from nine million overseas Pakistanis,” he added.
The Prime Minister said huge impediment in investment from overseas Pakistanis was corruption in the country. “Ease of Doing Business has improved in the country and efforts are on to enhance it further,” he added.
“The country will also witness sustainable growth by ensuring facilitation to overseas Pakistanis in the housing sector under the project,” he added. He noted that there was a huge racket of land grabbers against whom the government was waging “jihad”.
Detailing what sets Roshan Apna Ghar apart, the premier said banks were involved in the scheme which will add to the confidence of overseas Pakistanis. He added that his government had made improvements in ease of doing business.
Under the scheme, non-resident Pakistanis can now purchase or obtain financing for a house in Pakistan through Roshan Digital Account, according to the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP).
Speaking on the occasion, Finance Minister Shaukat Tarin said this scheme will help to retain the money coming from Roshan Digital Account. He said a massive investment is expected in real estate sector.
