Afghanistan’s changing situation

Ambassador Dr. Jamil by Ambassador Dr. Jamil

Reading Time: 3 mins read

The United Nations has been hesitant about the Taliban since taking power in Afghanistan. The world is still having a hard time understanding whether the Afghan Taliban are the same as they were in 1996 to 2001. The whole world has not yet made a decision on this and as far as peace in Afghanistan is concerned, the world is appreciating Pakistan’s efforts for that and the way our country has been working on it and convincing the world that we are only facilitators of peace talks is laudable.

Since the establishment of the Taliban’s political office in Doha on February 29, from 2011 to 2020, the Taliban have implemented a number of agreements and that’s why American troops are still safe on Afghan soil, and if you look at the Taliban’s promises, the world is keeping a close eye on them, but in my opinion, the Taliban will do their best.

The reason for the UN’s concerns about the Taliban is the 1996 strategy because the world still thinks that the Taliban may be the same as in the past. As far as the Taliban is concerned, unlike in the past, the Afghan Taliban have now worked well on three key points. The Taliban’s first priority was an internal and external political strategy, under which they maintained close ties with all Afghan tribes and Countries have also been included and steps have been taken to take into account the geographical situation while the military force has also been used very wisely.

If we compare the current Taliban with the Taliban of 1996, the Taliban have seen the world in 20 years and learned from the situation and today’s student is not only armed but also equipped with education and training and is showing political maturity. So every student has the facility of smartphone and social media due to which they have got the awareness to handle a lot of things.

If you look at the Doha Agreement of February 29, the Taliban seem to be abiding by all the agreements so far. There has been no violation of UN rules by the Taliban so far, and there has been a welcome change in the Taliban’s attitude.

The Taliban spokesman did not give any indication in his press conference that the Taliban could be declared unreliable, and now the only doubt the United Nations has is to see if the Taliban keep their promises. No, this rumor is present not only in the minds of the world but also in the minds of the Afghan people and that is why people are trying to escape by hanging on to the wheels of planes. But it is also important to keep in mind that these are the people who are fighting in Afghanistan.

Coalition forces and international NGOs have been working with the Taliban and they think they may be targeted, but the important thing is that the Taliban have put the concerns behind them by announcing a general amnesty for every opponent. The Taliban have put their roadmap in front of the world this time and they have set a direction to smooth public opinion.

This time, the Taliban are moving forward keeping in view the rule of law and are achieving all the goals in an efficient manner and it seems that the Taliban advisers are showing great tolerance this time. The reaction of the people of Pakistan to the success of the Taliban in Afghanistan is natural, but the government needs to be cautious and the United Nations should not give the impression that Pakistan stands apart from the world.
