ISLAMABAD: A court on Sunday granted two-day physical remand of the parents of Zahir Jaffer, the prime suspect in the murder of Noor Mukadam.
Police produced Zakir Jaffer Ismat Adamjee, the father and mother of the accused, along with two domestic servants in the court of Duty Magistrate Shehzad Khan who granted a two day physical remand.
Police told the court that Noor Muqaddam’s murder could have been prevented if the domestic employees had informed them. A neighbour had alerted police which reached the scene of the incidents within a few minutes.
The suspect’s lawyer argued in court that his client Zakir Jaffer condemned the murder wants justice in the case. He argued that client is on interim bail but is still in police custody. He added that a contempt of court case would be registered against the police.
The counsel Jaffer’s parents went from Karachi to Islamabad and the police station themselves. Zahir Jaffer’s parents told the court that they found out later that the incident has taken place. They told the magistrate they do not support the suspect and are heard about it from their domestic employee.
The investigating officer told the court that the judge’s order regarding bail has not been completed and surety bonds have not been submitted in the court. Noor Mukadam’s lawyer argued that the judicial system which has not been followed. He requested to give physical remand Zahir Jaffer’s parents or they should remain in police custody.
The court accepted the two-day physical remand of accused Zahir Jaffer’s parents and two employees and handed them over to the police.
Islamabad police has arrested the parents and household staff of suspect Zahir Jaffer, accused of torturing and brutally killing Noor Mukadam for “hiding evidence and being complicit in the crime”.
In a statement, a police spokesperson said several people including Zahir’s father Zakir Jaffer, mother Asmat Adamjee and household staff Iftikhar and Jameel were included in the investigation based on the statement of the victim’s father.
Besides, people who are connected to the case as witnesses or in any other capacity are also being included in the investigation, it said, adding that evidence was being collected from all the people.
Meanwhile, sealing orders have been issued for Therapy Works where Zahir reportedly worked as a therapist, Deputy Commissioner Hamza Shafqaat said.
