Govt’s failed strategy

Umar Farooq by Umar Farooq
January 2, 2021
Reading Time: 3 mins read

Former JUI-F leader Maulana Mohammad Sheerani Khan recently announced the formation of his own faction of the Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam to be called JUI-Pakistan. Talking to reporters, Maulana Sheerani said he had a clean record and always believed in truth.

He recalled that in 1994 he had opposed the opinion of several Arab and non-Arab scholars who supported the ‘policy of Jihad’. “I called Kashmir Jihad a creating turmoil and did not believe in Afghan Jihad; I described sectarian organisations as mercenaries,” the Maulana said, adding: “I called the MMA ‘Mullah Military Alliance’ and even said that Azadi march of Maulana Fazlur Rehman would fail.”

Although the statement given by Maulana Sheerani is not new, his views have been the same from day one. But earlier the burden of such statements was borne by Maulana Fazlur Rehman and his party, now they will bear the burden themselves.

Sheerani, by using such controversial statements, is trying to attract the government circles because currently a political has been set up in Islamabad. Maulana Sheerani ‘s statements against Kashmir and recognition of Israel prove what agenda he is pursuing. They know that the current government has created a friendly atmosphere for such statements.

There is a completion going between JUI-Nazaryati and Sheerani’s JUI, who gets better acceptance in government circles by making statements against Maulana Fazlur Rehman. Meanwhile, the government circle is making fake promises to those leaders by presenting Senate ticket and membership of the Council of Islamic Ideology (CII).

In the past, when Maulana Sheerani was the chairman of CII, he had spoken of revising the constitutional amendment against the Ahmadis. He was of the view that the arguments on the basis of which the Ahmadis were declared non-Muslims were very weak.

Maulana Sheerani and Maulana Abdul Qadir should be thankful to Maulana Fazl for all their political survival. Advisers and ministers have opened their doors to them. Their accent is being cleared and being broadcast as breaking news. It is indeed a blessing of Maulana Fazlur Rehman that Maulana Sherani was the Chairman of CCI and a member of the Senate and the National Assembly.

Before him, another Maulana based in Lahore tried to attract the government circles. Suddenly he remembered that he had been sent by former Prime Minister Mian Nawaz Sharif on a visit to Israel. Some people started asking questions from Nawaz Sharif’s allies to tell now who the ‘Yahoodi’ agent is?

The government is taking advantage of Maulana Ajmal Qadri’s statement but is not bothering to ask him how and when he went to Israel. And the government should also ask Maulana Sheerani how he had deviated from state policy and made a statement to recognize Israel. Obviously, the government will not do this because such statements are actually part of a campaign to pave the way for Israel.

The incumbent government has been accusing Maulana Fazlur Rehman from day one of using religious cards. But I want to ask a question about which type of card the government ministers, advisers and spokespersons are using against Maulana Fazl for the last two weeks.

Maulana Muhammad Khan Sheerani, Hafiz Hussain Ahmad, Maulana Abdul Qadir Loni, Maulana Ajmal Qadri are not religious cards? The government has only got this weapon against Maulana Fazl after NAB, FIA and negative propaganda.

The first meeting of Maulana Sheerani’s group was very disappointing. After several days of hard work and thorough preparation, he was able to collect only 20 to 30 supporters.

Sheerani’s claims are ridiculous because JUI-Pakistan is registered in the Election Commission of Pakistan under the name of Maulana Fazl. On the other hand, JUI-Nazaryati’s  Maulana Abdul Qadir in the last election got only 474 votes as a candidate for the Provincial Assembly. And the government is trying to restrict Maulana’s power by using failed leaders.
