SBP extends relaxation of biometric verification of dormant accounts

KARACHI: The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) on Friday stated that remittances reached a record level of $2.2 billion for the sixth consecutive month of the current financial year.

In this regard, Prime Minister Imran Khan took to Twitter and expressed that there is good news for Pakistan’s economy.

More good news for Pakistan’s economy as workers’ remittances continued to grow in November – remaining above US$2 billion for a record 6th consecutive month. Acc to SBP they rose to US$2.34 billion, up 2.4% over the previous month & 28.4% over November 2019.

“More good news for Pakistan’s economy as workers’ remittances continued to grow in November – remaining above US$2 billion for a record 6th consecutive month. Acc to SBP they rose to US$2.34 billion, up 2.4% over the previous month & 28.4% over November 2019,” the prime minister tweeted.

Last month, the SBP had said that remittances had increased by a record 4 9.4 billion in the fiscal year 2021, an increase of 26.5 percent over the previous fiscal year.

According to the SBP, 30 percent of remittances were sent to Pakistan from Saudi Arabia, 16 percent from the United States, and 14 percent from London.

In October, the State Bank of Pakistan said in a statement that remittances from Pakistanis abroad had reached more than 2 2 billion and remittances reached a record high of 7. 7.1 billion in the third quarter of the fiscal year.
