An Islamic presidential system

Reading Time: 2 mins read

Economic policies of the incumbent government have created a strangely depressing atmosphere due to the unbearable burden of taxes on the people, the horrendous rise in inflation, the lack of access to the global market, and the way friendly countries turn a blind eye to Pakistan’s problems.

The anti-opposition attitude of the Imran Khan-led government and the move of unilateral accountability have created political unrest in the country. The people of Pakistan were already disappointed with the performance of previous governments, but now the PTI government in the name of ‘change’ has betrayed the people’s hope.

Anti-Pakistan forces are also trying to damage the country in several ways. Therefore, there is a need to bring a new system of government that does not create a burden on people and the country’s economy and no ruler can feel the need to use institutions for his power.

In such type of system, the economy does not need any foreign aid and can provide relief to the people from domestic resources. The patriotic people, who want to see Pakistan stable internally and externally, are seriously considering ending the current problems.

In some corridors in Islamabad, the failure of the parliamentary system has been quietly acknowledged. In this regard, the echoes of regime change have been gradually increasing in the political circles of Islamabad for some time now and the sound of the presidential system is being heard.

In such a situation and public frustration, the Hum Awam Pakistan Party Chairman Tahir Aziz Khan, has emerged on the political scene as the pioneers of the Islamic presidential system. After his appeal to the Supreme Court a few months ago, a series of demonstrations and rallies in favor of the Islamic presidential system began across the country.

Political circles in Islamabad claimed that Tahir Aziz Khan is a player of the Establishment and the Pakistani military is supporting him. However, those familiar with the personality of Tahir Aziz Khan said that he is representing a group of industrialists and businessmen who were disappointed with Imran Khan’s performance.

Hum Awam Pakistan Party Chairman Tahir Aziz Khan has filed a constitutional petition stating that the 1973 parliamentary system in the country has completely failed.

He claimed that his party aims to overthrow the parliamentary system and replace it with an Islamic presidential system of government so that the people and the state of Pakistan can prosper.

The petition further stated that apart from superpowers like the United States, successful Muslim countries like Turkey and Iran have a presidential system, so an Islamic presidential system should be implemented in Pakistan as well. The petition asks the Supreme Court to issue a referendum order to the Prime Minister in the country under Article 48 of the Constitution.

Apart from prominent lawyer Ahmad Raza Kasuri, Hafeez-ur-Rehman and Abdul Basit have also filed a similar petition in the Supreme Court. The series of petitions filed by citizens is a testament to the public’s support for the presidential system.
