MUMBAI: The owner of famous sweet shop in Mumbai has concealed the word ‘Karachi’ from the signboard of his shop after a Shiv Sena leader asked him to drop the Pakistani city’s name.
The video of Shiv Sena leader Nitin Nandgaonkar telling a Mumbai sweet shop to remove the word ‘Karachi’ from its name went viral on social media. He asked the owner to change the name of the shop to something ‘Marathi’.

“I don’t want any trouble over this issue. I have consulted my lawyers and in the days to come I might or might not change the name Karachi from the signboards,” the owner of the Karachi Sweets said.
The owner, who does not wish to be named, said that the Shiv Sena leader had come over to his shop and asked for a name change. “He talked nicely to me and the rest of it is there in the video which people have already seen.” he added.
In the viral video, Nandgaonkar told the owner, “You have to do it, we are giving you time. Change ‘Karachi’ to something in Marathi.” The Sena leader can be heard telling the shop owner to change the name to anything but Karachi, which reminds one of Pakistan.
“I hate the name Karachi. The city in Pakistan is a hub of terrorists. You can name your ancestors in the banner. I pay my respects to them. You came from Pakistan but this is your home. You’ll have to do it (change the name). We will help you with the business. I will give you time. Change the name to something in Marathi,” the Sena leader added.
Nandgaonkar was slammed on social media for threatening the owner of the shop, with many Indians calling on the government to book him for the act.
