Pakistanis are now fed up

Bashir Hamdard by Bashir Hamdard

The people of Pakistan from businessmen, industrialists, labourers, government and private employees, farmers and students are apparently not satisfied with the performance of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) government. As a journalist, wherever I have visited, I haven’t heard good words about the Imran Khan-led government.

It is a matter of concern that now even worshipers in mosques are heard expressing their displeasure over the PTI government’s performance. Ministers, who are constantly declaring opposition as traitors, thieves and enemies of the country, should instead listen to the common man’s demands.

PTI has forgotten its manifesto after coming to power, forgotten all promises and claims, unemployment has increased, prices of electricity, gas, petrol and other edible items were also hiked and new taxes were imposed. The people of a country, self-sufficient in wheat, sugar, pulses and vegetables, have been deprived of these earthly blessings.

Industries are taking the last hiccup and local investors are afraid of business investments due to the brutal treatment of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR). In the skyrocketing inflation, government employees are protesting for a pay rise. The prices of medicines are also rapidly increasing but instead of taking action, the prime minister is busy distributing health cards.

Pakistan is facing serious problems on both internal and external fronts. Our armed forces are fighting for a strong and stable nation on both fronts and citizens trust their military leadership to the extent of faith. Our political leaders also have full faith in their prowess and strength.

The criticism of the government’s performance by the opposition is the beauty of democracy.

But unfortunately, the prime minister despite tall claims has failed to provide any relief to the people. The government also announced packages worth billions for Karachi but not a single penny has been allotted.

An ordinance has been issued to takeover the islands of Sindh in a provocative move to seize the resources of the province – the highest revenue earner. Today even PTI supporters are also protesting against the government’s policies. All sections of society are expressing disappointment with Imran Khan’s government but the prime minister has turned a blind eye.

An impression is being given that the opposition are the thieves, robbers and enemies of the country while those who have increased the food prices are patriots. The prime minister has claimed that all constitutional institutions, including the army and the judiciary, are with him. Now let’s see how much these institutions are aware of the citizen’s plight.
