Army’s Fault?

Syed Shakir Ali by Syed Shakir Ali

At present, the political temperature in the country has reached its peak. The 11-party opposition, under the banner of Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM), is protesting to oust the Prime Minister Imran Khan-led government and to promote so-called true democracy in the country.

PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif’s speech at the public meeting in Gujranwala and Quetta added to the intensity of the turbulent political atmosphere. In his speech, instead of Imran Khan and his government, Nawaz accused Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa and DG ISI General Faiz Hameed of interfering in political affairs and expelling him.

Nawaz Sharif’s speeches against the state institutions are making headlines in the international media while the media of the arch-rival India is celebrating. A person who has been the Prime Minister of Pakistan three times is strengthening the enemy forces and their rhetoric against Pakistan.

India is not only violating the ceasefire but also constantly targeting the Pakistan Army through terrorism. In just two days, 22 Pakistani soldiers were martyred in three terrorist incidents in North Waziristan and Balochistan. Subjugating such an army to fulfill your political ambitions is treason or patriotism?

In response to a question on a private TV channel, a retired general of the Pakistan Army admitted that it was the army’s fault that it had supported Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, Nawaz Sharif and other leaders in the past. So-called proponents of today’s democracy were also part of the dictatorship.

When Iskander Mirza imposed martial law in the country on October 7, 1958, Bilawal Bhutto’s grandfather Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto was in the Martial Law Cabinet. Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, the metaphor of politics and the symbol of democracy, loved General Ayub Khan very much and called him Daddy and this love was not one-sided.

General Ayub Khan formed his own political party in 1962 under the name of Convention Muslim League, and Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto became the central secretary general and in 1965 Bhutto was also against Fatima Jinnah. On July 5, 1977, Army Chief General Zia-ul-Haq once again enforced martial law.

And then in 1983, an unknown suddenly became Finance Minister of Punjab. It was Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif who became the Chief Minister of Punjab in 1985 and became the Prime Minister for the first time in 1992. Nawaz Sharif owes these successes to selection and a dictator (Zia-ul-Haq).

Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif has now become a revolutionary and according to him he is now determined to live with dignity and has handed over his political legacy to his daughter Maryam Nawaz.

On the other hand, there is Imran Khan who formed his own political party in 1996 under the name of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and plunged into the sea of politics. And after 22 years of struggle, he won the 2018 general election and is now the Prime Minister and despite being elected, he was selected in the eyes of the opposition.

However, as a result of these elections, which the entire opposition calls rigged, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s Pakistan People’s Party is ruling in Sindh province and is being called an elected government. Similarly, after the martyrdom of Benazir Bhutto in December 2007, according to her will, the PPP leadership was passed to her son Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.

By holding the present government responsible for all the problems of the people and ousting it, the government should be handed over to Pakistan People’s Party due to its slogan ‘Roti, kapra and makan.’

Because Imran Khan’s government did nothing in the two and a half years while PPP and PML-N got only 35 years of power in which the people were very prosperous. In our country, democracy is the government of certain families. In search of this true democracy all the lovers of power have come together and are striving for power at any cost. Because power is so addictive that one cannot live without it.
