KARACHI: Adnan Arshad, DG Sports Punjab has said that the government of Punjab is ready to work with EFP, ILO, and Pakistan Olympic Association for promoting sports as an essential component of decent work for all.
He declared the statement while speaking as chief guest at a Sports-related awareness-raising seminar, Adnan Arshad jointly organized by the Employers Federation of Pakistan, International Labor Organization, and Olympic Association of Pakistan at Millat Tractor Plant at Lahore.
Earlier Zaki Ahmed Khan, Vice President, EFP in his welcome address, stated that the objective of the seminar was to promote Pakistan’s participation in Tokyo Olympic and showcase efforts made for the elimination of child labor and other initiatives under the MNED project for promoting more and better jobs through socially responsible labor practices in sports goods industry of Sialkot.
Saghir Bukhari, representing ILO office, Islamabad congratulated EFP and POA for joining hands to promote sports and decent work for all.
Zahoor Awan, Secretary-General, Pakistan Workers Federation strongly advocated for promoting sports and decent work because a healthy body was essential for a healthy mind in order to motivate workers for better productivity and create grounds for decent work, a decent wage, and decent employment.
Khalid Mahmood, Secretary-General POA, in his keynote speech at the occasion thanked EFP and ILO for promoting decent work through sports and assured full support and cooperation in developing a long term partnership for sustainable social and community development through sports and other allied activities. Muzammil, Choudhry Naseem, Haji Maqsood, Fasihul Karim Siddiqi also spoke on the occasion. The event was participated by a number of national and international players besides the representatives of sports associations and business enterprises.
Earlier a friendly volleyball match was organized by Millat Tractor Employees Union in which Millat Tractor and Sahiwal Lions demonstrated their excellent performance. Prizes were distributed among the winning teams by Adnan Arshad DG Sports Punjab and Khalid Mahmood Secretary-General, POA.
