In a bid to overthrow the incumbent government, the much-hyped PPP-hosted multiparty conference has formed a new forum, named Pakistan Democratic Movement, which will lead and guide nationwide protests against the government, dubbed as anti-public and anti-nation, in a disciplined and integrated manner.
After hours of discussion, JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman read out the 26-point resolution and expressed extreme concern over the increasing interference of the establishment in the internal affairs of the country. The multiparty conference also demanded transparent elections in the country and called for electoral reforms.
The newly-formed forum also agreed upon a six-point action plan to depose the incumbent government, which includes huge public demonstrations, joint rallies, and a decisive long march. The opposition stated that they will use every legal and constitutional option in and out of parliament to oust the government.
The opposition is unlikely to achieve anything beyond because it remains disunited, disjointed and rather dysfunctional. This can be assuaged from the fact three FAFT-related bills were passed from a joint sitting of parliament despite the opposition’s majority.
The address of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, however, has sparked outrage among the leaders of the ruling party. The opposition’s new action plan seems to be concrete to oust the government. The opposition should now be more committed otherwise it will be unable to make a significant difference.
