ISLAMABAD: The district police have arrested a couple, along with another person, for abusing and brutally torturing a 13-year-old housemaid in Islamabad.
According to details, the latest case was reported in Phase-III, Bahria Town Islamabad, where the girl faced mental and physical torture at the hands of the house owners.
Upon receiving the information, the officials from the Lohi Bher Police Station took action in this regard. The police, during the raid on the bungalow, recovered the 13-year-old maid and arrested the couple along with the landlord.
According to the FIR (first information report), Sohail Illyas and his wife Shaneela Illyas were torturing the victim, Kulsoom for the past six months. The victim was not allowed to meet her parents.
The FIR further informed that another accused, Nasreen, had ensured employment for Kulsoom about six months ago. However, Nasreen had received the entire amount as salary in advance instead of being paid to the victim. Police later handed over the victim to her parents.
The illegal practice of torturing the maids has yet to be controlled despite the fact that even employing children of less than 15 years of age is illegal in Pakistan.
Earlier in June last year, an eight-year-old girl – Zahra – was tortured to death in Rawalpindi by a couple for allowing the parrots to escape from their cage.
The minor housemaid was frequently tortured and the incidents were recorded on video after the police managed to obtain access to the cellular devices of Hasan Siddiqui and his wife Umme Kulsoom.
