ISLAMABAD: Several ghost employees at Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), the largest allied hospital in Islamabad, are serving the hospital, it has been revealed.
The revelation came in a letter written by the Doctors of the Nephrology department to the Ministry of Health. According to the letter, the Nephrology department has turned into failure due to sheer nepotism, out of way appointment, and ghost employment.
The letter further revealed that the department only has eight trained doctors to deal with patients and the rest of the listed doctors are ghost employees or training in other departments and receiving monthly salaries.
The letter stated, “Standard Operation of the department consists of 32 indoor patients, 80 patients undergoing hemodialysis, intra-departmental consultations, at least 8-10 central line insertion procedures a day, dozens of patients presenting in the emergency department and a hectic OPD.”
“The seats in the Nephrology department have been continuously allotted to affluent people who then train in the department of general medicine while receiving salaries from the department,” the letter added.
The doctors, in the letter, said that they constantly faced hostile reactions and verbal abuse by the attendants catering to patients due to the lack of workforce.
The doctors further informed that they have filed several applications to the concerned officials in this regard but no action has been taken yet.
