QUETTA: Pakistan Customs on Tuesday seized smuggled items worth 21 million rupees during a targeted operation in Balochistan.
According to sources, the Customs officials conducted an intelligence-based raid with the assistance of the Frontier Constabulary in Balochistan’s Mastung area. During the operation non-custom paid items, including betel nuts, clothes and other items were confiscated during the raid, sources said.
Sources further said the contraband items were planned to be smuggled to Karachi in trucks from Quetta.
The seized goods include 47.6 tonnes of Ajinomoto (Chinese salt), 32 metric tonnes of almonds, 7 metric tonnes of pistachios, 4.3 metric tonnes of powdered milk, 2.4 metric tonnes of tea leaves, 30 metric tonnes of betel nuts and other goods.
Earlier, The Sindh Rangers and the Pakistan Customs had seized smuggled items worth millions of rupees.
According to a Rangers spokesman, the Rangers conducted an intelligence-based raid with the assistance of the Customs in an area which is on the border of Sindh and Balochistan. Non-custom paid items, including betel nuts, were confiscated during the raid, he said.
The contraband items were planned to be smuggled to Lahore and Multan in a truck from Quetta, he added.
The approximate value of the seized items was about 51.47 million, the spokesman said, adding that the items were 850 cartons of platinum cigarettes, 148 cartons of different cigarettes and 64 bags of betel nuts. The seized items were later handed to the Customs Authorities for legal action, he said.
