KARACHI: A cracker (locally-made hand grenade) was thrown outside the office of the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) of Gulbahar in Karachi’s Liaquatabad today (Saturday).
According to details, the cracker did not detonate, fortunately. A bomb disposal squad has been called at the site.
A police spokesperson said that unidentified men threw the cracker while they were on a motorcycle. Sources informed that DSP Liaqatabad and his staff were present in the office. The office was immediately evacuated.
Earlier on July 23, at least 17 people, including a child, were injured in an explosion in Parachinar’s Turi Bazaar. Police spokesperson informed that the cause of the explosion was an improvised explosive device (IED) that had been fitted inside a vegetable cart. “The area is usually occupied by vegetable and fruit sellers,” he said.
Police and security personnel cordoned off the area. A team from the Bomb Disposal Squad also reached the scene to comb through the area and check for other IEDs.
District Headquarter Hospital (DHQ) Deputy Medical Superintendent Dr. Qaiser Abbas Bangash said that at least 17 injured, including a child, were brought to the facility.
