RAWALPINDI: Police foiled an escape attempt by a robbery suspect after he was being transferred to Adiala Jail.
The suspect was being transferred to the jail in a private vehicle after a court appearance when he managed to suddenly pull the handbrake after which the car lost control and collided with a motorcycle.
This ensued a clash between police and the suspect who injured himself with handcuffs and attempted to escape. A large crowd of local passersby gathered after the incident.
The suspect was identified as Usman and a robbery case was lodged against him at Airport police station. Police claimed to have foiled the suspect escape attempt.
Sub-inspector Tahir was transferring the suspect to jail. City Police Office (CPO) Rawalpindi has taken notice of the incident and sought a report.
Police said the suspect was a habitual criminal who attempted to escape from custody. He has been shifted to hospital after which legal action will be taken against him.
