KARACHI: A man opened fire at Sarim Burney Trust office after he was not allowed to take away his sister-in-law who had taken refuge over there.
The trust’s chairman Sarim Burney said that sister-in-law of the assailant had approached them for legal advice for domestic problems with her in-laws.
On Wednesday, the armed man entered the Saddar office of the Sarim Burney and insisted to take his sister-in-law back home. However, the woman refused to go home and employees at the trust prevented him from taking her away forcefully.
The accused got infuriated over this and opened fire in the office. Later, he escaped after staying there for a brief period.
Sarim Burney said they have informed police about the incident. The suspect has been identified as Naveed Ahmed, a resident of Old Sabzi Mandi area.
Burney said that the trust allows legal advice for domestic violence and many women seek refuge after escaping their abusive husband and in-laws.
He said that incidents are common of people forcefully taking women away but the employees of the trust rising their lives to stop them. He said the cooperation of the police was necessary in such circumstances to prevent such incidents.
