RAWALPINDI: Police have claimed to solve the murder of female government official by arresting the killer and recovering the knife used in the incident.
The killer has been identified as Wajid Mehmood, who stabbed to death Sobia Tabbasum, an employee of District Health Department Anti-Dengue Squad. A case has been registered at the Sadiqabad police station against the accused while further investigation was ongoing.
A police officer said the suspect was the brother-in-law of the victim and had an illicit relationship with her. The suspect wanted to marry Sobia but she married another man which angered him. Wajid stabbed her to death in her house and fled.
The body was found after three days while a case was registered by the victim’s sister. A special police team under the surveillance of SP Rawal Division Rai Mazhar and ASP New Town Imran Khan traced the suspect who confessed to his crime.
He said he had developed a relationship with Sobia and helped in finding her body to avoid suspicion. Police have obtained his physical remand from a local court for further investigation.
Police also recovered the murder weapon used in the crime and murder case under Section 302 has been lodged against him.
