HYDERABAD: A couple belonging to a nomadic Bugti tribe was gunned down on the pretext of honour in Shikarpur district of Sindh.
According to sources, the slain woman’s former in-laws have been accused of the twin murders, while the couple, who is survived by four children.
Lakhi Ghulam Shah SHO Muhammad Ali Soomro citing initial investigation said that four armed men entered the house of deceased had opened fire on Kamaluddin Bugti and his wife Mahgul Bugti. As a result, the couple died on the spot, while the accused fled the scene after committing the crime.
The SHO added that Kamaluddin’s family had alleged that Nooruddin Essani, the son of Mahgul’s first husband from his other wife, had killed the couple with the assistance of his accomplices.
According to Soomro, Mahgul’s first husband had evicted her from their home over allegations of disloyalty. She later married Kamaluddin and lived with him for several years.
On Wednesday following the incident, Bugti tribesmen, with the bodies of the deceased, blocked the Sukkur-Shikarpur road and demanded justice.
However, the protestors dispersed only after the police assured them the killers would be apprehended and a case would be registered on the basis of their complaint.
Kamaluddin’s uncle, Sawan Bugti, told the media that despite marital differences, Mahgul’s former in-laws, including Essani, would visit her residence and the two families were on good terms.
Earlier, Police investigations had disclosed that two bodies of a man and woman, found near Hub Dam were murdered in the name of honour.
The tortured bodies had been identified as Naseeb Zar Khan and Wahabsar Khan, the residents of Mominabad Metroville area of Karachi. The FIR of double murder had been registered by police under the honour killing clauses of the law.
