FAISALABAD: Police on Saturday conducted a raid at a marriage ceremony in Faisalabad and apprehended eight people and hotel staff, for violating standard operating procedures issued by the government to curb COVID-19.
According to the details, a wedding ceremony was underway at the local hotel in Faisalabad when the police reached there and took at least eight wedding guests and the hotel staff into custody.
However, the groom Waseem and the bride managed to escape from the scene. The police shifted the detainees to the hospital for the COVID-19 test.
Police sources said that an FIR will be registered against the detainees’ after all legal requirements were completed.
Earlier, police had arrested a groom and his relatives in Muzaffargarh for violating the COVID-19 lockdown and Section 144 imposed by the federal government. According to the police, the wedding ceremony was taking place in Sanawan’s Pitti Sultan Mehmood. They had conducted a raid after receiving a tip-off.
The groom, identified as Muzammil, had gathered a large number of people there, an officer said. Along with the groom, nine others were arrested. A case had been registered and they will appear before a court soon.
On July 22, the police had arrested another groom, his family members and guests for gathering more than 50 people at his house in a village of Pakpattan.
They all were leaving for the bride’s house when a police team arrested them over the violation of lockdown imposed across the country. A case had been registered against them under Section 188 (disobedience to orders) of the Pakistan Penal Code.
