KARACHI: The life of a citizen, who complained against illegal constructions, is at risk after officers of the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) gave his personal information to a builder.
Muhammad Zeeshan, a resident of Gulberg Town, had filed a complaint against the illegal construction of apartments in Azizabad on plot no. R.505. Rather than taking action against the construction, the SBCA officers instead demanded more bribes from the builder named Haroon.
The complainant filed another application regarding inaction, prompting SBCA officers to complete take tokenistic action. The SBCA officers visited the site of the construction and threatened the builder that the building would be demolished stating they have received orders from higher authorities.
The matter was quickly resolved after the builder reportedly offered a bribe of one million rupees. The builder was also given the name and contact information of the complainant. As soon as SBCA officers left, the builder went to the complainant’s residence and threatened him of dire consequences.
Zeeshan has now filed a complaint in Azizabad police station over the threats by the builder, citing threats to his life and family. However, no action has been taken yet and he has appealed to the courts to take notice.
