THATTA: At least seven children who had gone swimming in River Indus near Thatta, drowned on Friday.
According to rescue sources, seven children aged between 6-10 years drowned after they had gone swimming in River Indus to escape the heat.
Rescue officials pulled out bodies of all seven children, three girls and four boys, from the river. They said that the victims lived in the nearby village of Daim Marri.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah took notice of the incident and ordered Commissioner Hyderabad to present a detailed inquiry report in this regard. The chief minister also instructed relevant authorities to cooperate with parents in every way.
On May 9, five people, including three women and two children, drowned in the Indus river near Ghorabari in district Thatta.
According to rescues sources, the incident took place at Goth Ismail Jatt in the coastal area of Dandari. Rescue sources had said all of the victims were drowned while trying to save a falling child in the river.
The police said that the women were washing clothes on the riverside when a child slipped into the river. The women dived in the water to save the child however none of them survived, police added.
On April 26, five children were drowned in a tank of an under-construction building in Karachi’s Surjani Town’s Sector 7D.
According to details, a group of five children had jumped into the water tank of an under-construction building in order to swim but couldn’t survive.
The rescue official had informed that the children were between the ages of nine and 14. The rescue officials have retrieved the bodies and shifted them to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for completing legal formalities.
