KABUL: A journalist and a driver were killed while six people sustained injuries when a private bus carrying employees of an Afghan television station was bombed in the country’s capital on Saturday.
According to the director of Khurshid TV, a preliminary probe showed a bomb attached by magnets to a bus used by Khurshid TV employees was blown up in Kabul. As a result, a journalist and a driver were killed on the spot and six people sustained injuries.
No militant group claimed responsibility for the attack yet, he said. In 2019, two employees of Khurshid TV were killed and two were injured in a similar attack.
According to the media freedom group Reporters Without Borders, Taliban and other insurgents have repeatedly targeted Afghan journalists, killing 15 in 2018.
In 2016, a Taliban suicide bomber had rammed his car into a bus carrying employees of Tolo TV, the country’s largest private broadcaster, killing seven journalists.
The insurgents claimed Tolo was producing propaganda for the US military and western-backed Afghan government.
On May 11, Four civilians were injured after the Afghan capital had rocked by roadside bombs that exploded in less than 90 minutes.
Kabul police spokesman Ferdaws Faramarz had said that the explosion wounded four civilians including a child.
Militants had carried out several roadside bombings and rocket attacks in Kabul and other parts of the country in recent weeks.
