RAWALPINDI: A fire that erupted at cotton and cloth shops on Friday in the Namak Mandi area, destroyed goods worth millions of Rupees.
According to rescue officials, the fire was brought under control after twelve hours. The rescue spokesperson informed that at least 100 Rescue officials, 40 vehicles including water boozers, fire vehicles, rescue vehicles, and ambulances took part in the rescue operation.
With stores in the building dealing in cotton-based products such as bedding and hosiery along with some plastic goods, the blaze quickly spread and engulfed as many as 75 stores.
Eyewitnesses said that the fire in the cotton warehouse was so intense that flames could be seen rising into the air from afar.
Central President Anjuman-e-Tajiran Punjab Sharjeel Mir said that the traders have suffered a loss of almost Rs 20 crores. He alleged that this incident has taken place due to the incompetence of ISCO.
He further said, “The traders have always supported the nation, whether it is the renovation campaign, the Dam Fund or the corona fund, now the government should help us in this difficult time.” He also demanded an immediate inquiry from the Government of Punjab.
