RAWALPINDI: A poverty-stricken man in Rawalpindi committed suicide after killing his wife, police said.
According to details, the man, named Naimatullah, was under enormous stress and was tired of poverty due to the lockdown – which was imposed to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus.
Residents of the area informed that the husband and wife used to fight over the non-availability of food. Amid this distress, the family didn’t receive any financial assistance from the government or any welfare organization.
According to police reports, no suicide note has yet been recovered. The deceased wife was identified as Asmeen Bibi. Police have also shifted the body to the hospital.
According to a report of the Asian Development Bank, almost 24.3 percent of the Pakistani population lives below the national poverty line.
Earlier, Pakistan relaxed coronavirus restriction to open small markets and shops across the country despite a sharp rise in cases. All the small markets, shops, and allied industries of the construction sector opened today.
