MULTAN: Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on Friday claimed to have arrested a gang allegedly involved in illegal registration of mobile SIMs and thumb impressions with the government’s poverty alleviation programmes.
Talking to media, the spokesperson of the agency said that the FIA officials apprehended a junior executive of National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) identified as Sham Qamar from Vihari.
The latest arrest was made in the case which revealed usage of fake SIMs and silicone fingerprints by the gang for receiving funds after illegal registering into poverty alleviation programmes including Ehsaas and Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP).
The spokesperson further said that the arrested official NADRA is being investigated. It emerged that the gang members used to activate mobile sim cards through silicone fingerprints of nationals to get cash from Ehsaas and BISP programmes.
It is pertinent to mention here that three accused persons had been arrested from the Mehmoodabad area of Multan a few days ago. The raid team had also recovered more than 50 silicone thumb impressions from their possession.
Earlier, Lahore police had took action against a retailer for allegedly collecting money from the needy people in Ehsaas Emergency Cash Program.
According to police, a complaint was received by the district administration about a retailer embezzling money in the Ehsaas Emergency Cash Program.
District administration officers and police reached at the shop of a retailer, Irshad and arrested him.
The officials had sealed the shop as the owner allegedly got money from the beneficiaries of Ehsaas Emergency Cash Program, police added.
On April 6, the daily wagers of Rawalpindi had staged protest against the corruption in Prime Minister Imran Khan’s Ehsaas Emergency Cash Programme.
According to details, the protestors had claimed that the amount of Ehsaas Emergency Cash Programme was being distributed among the relatives of the members of the National and Provincial Assemblies.
The federal government under the leadership of Prime Minister Imran Khan has taken an initiative Ehsaas Emergency Cash Programme in order to help the deserving people amid coronavirus lockdown.
