WASHINGTON: The United States, the worst-affected country from the coronavirus infection, has recorded 1,433 deaths in the past 24 hours, taking the nation’s toll to 42,138.
Deaths from the COVID-19 pandemic in Italy rose by 454, slightly up on Sunday’s tally, while the number of new cases dropped to 2,256, the lowest level in well over a month.
France is the fourth country to record more than 20,000 deaths, following the United States by far the worst affected worldwide Italy and Spain.
France has 114,657 confirmed cases, but officials have said that the real figure is much higher due to a lack of testing. Its death toll includes 12,513 people who died in hospitals and 7,752 people who lost their lives in old people s homes and other nursing homes.
The coronavirus positive cases in Japan, too, have surged as confirmed cases passed 10,000 despite a nationwide state of emergency. Singapore has also reported a record daily jump of more than 1,426 coronavirus cases, taking its total to over 8,000.
On the other hand, Germany may start opening up, taking the first steps towards normality as politicians declared the coronavirus under control. New Zealand, too, has decided to ease the restrictions from the coming week.
Overall, the world has recorded 2,473,209 coronavirus positive cases and 170,042 deaths.
