MUZAFFARGARH: The police have arrested a groom and his relatives for violating the COVID-19 lockdown and Section 144 imposed by the federal government.
According to the police, the wedding ceremony was taking place in Sanawan’s Pitti Sultan Mehmood. They conducted a raid after receiving a tip-off. The groom, identified as Muzammil, had gathered a large number of people there, an officer said.
Along with the groom, nine other relatives of his were arrested. A case has been registered and they will appear before a court soon. Last week, the police arrested another groom, his family members and guests for gathering more than 50 people at his house in a village of Pakpattan.
They all were leaving for the bride’s house when a police team arrested them over the violation of lockdown imposed across the country. The police said that such gatherings are likely to spread the coronavirus. A case has been registered against them under Section 188 (disobedience to orders) of the Pakistan Penal Code.
In this regard, several citizens have been arrested for violating the government’s orders. A lock-down has been placed to stop the spread of the virus which is a contagious disease and can spread through human interaction.
