GUJRANWALA: A cleric of a local seminary (madrassah) was arrested for allegedly subjecting a 12-year-old girl to sexual assault in Fareed Town area of Gujranwala on Tuesday.
According to sources, a 12-year-old girl, a resident of Fareed Town, was enrolled at a madrassah Tanzeem-e-Quran situated in the area. The seminary was run by cleric Hussan Raza.
On April 12, the accused had sexually assaulted the girl in an isolated room adjacent to the seminary.
A First Information Report (FIR), dated Dec 14 April 2020, was registered on the complaint of the victim’s mother. The cleric was charged under Section 377 (unnatural offence) of Pakistan Penal Code and Section 53 (child sexual abuse) of Child Protection and Welfare Act, 2010.
According to the FIR, the accused took the girl inside the room of the seminary, where he allegedly assaulted her. The accused also threaten the victim by showing a TT pistol in an attempt to silence her. The medical report of the girl also confirmed that the she was raped by the accused.
The victim’s mother appealed to Prime Minister Imran Khan, CM Punjab Usman Buzdar and other concerned officials to take severe action against the accused.
