TEHRAN: The coronavirus death toll in Islamic Republic of Iran has risen to 2,378 today (Friday) as 144 new deaths have been reported in last 24 hours.
According to Iran’s Health Ministry spokesperson, almost 2,926 coronavirus cases have been confirmed in last 24 hours, bringing the total number to 32,332.
This figure is the highest single-day jump in the number of cases, the country has so far seen.
The spokesperson further said that almost 676 people have recovered from the deadly virus in last 24 hours, bringing the total number of recoveries to 11,133.
He also informed that as part of a national campaign the number of people who have undergone health screening against the virus tops 50 million. The total population of the country is approximately 81 million.
According to data compiled by United States University, Coronavirus emerged in Chinese city of Wuhan, last December, and now the virus has spread to at least 176 countries and territories.
Globally, coronavirus has claimed the lives of more than 24,000 people and has affected almost 548,807 people. Iran is one of the worst affected countries in the world from the COVID-19.
