KARACHI: Anti-Corruption Establishment has launched an investigation against corruption in residential and commercial projects in the name of New Nazimabad.
According to details, the place where the new Nazimabad project was started, this 1074-acre government land was acquired on 30-year lease in 1960 to build a cement factory.
However, few years ago the place was introduced as a new commercial and residential project named New Nazimabad and the citizens have invested billions of rupees in the project.
Anti-Corruption department issued a notice to Chief Executive Officer of Arif Habib Private Limited in which details have been sought for this project.
The notice stated that in May 1961, the lease of this land was increased to 99 years without laying the foundation of the cement factory. The increase in lease duration was revealed by a dubious letter.
Here relevant sources claimed that the Anti Corruption Unit was being deliberately used for investigation to keep National Accountability Bureau (NAB) away from this case.
Sources further revealed that the Anti-Corruption department has so far failed to punish any individual in mega-corruption cases.
Land for the new Nazimabad project was acquired from an irrelevant forum; an additional 128 acres of land were also illegally acquired.
While anti-corruption had sought all records from initial stage till February 25. Here sources claimed that the new Nazimabad administration has called for time for record delivery.
According to sources, Anti-corruption has granted a week to the new Nazimabad administration to provide records.
Thousands of people in New Nazimabad have invested billions of rupees on the purchase of plots, most of them belong to middle class. The cancellation of the project would affect thousands of people.
