LAHORE: A 10-year-old seminary student in Lahore’s Kahna area died after alleged torture by his teacher.
According to the deceased family, the student, Gulfam was moved to a hospital in serious condition after allegedly two teachers, including Qari Bilal beaten him severely. The boy, later, succumbed to his injuries in the hospital during treatment, the family added.
After receiving complaint police have taken the suspects into custody and were investigating the matter.
In 2018, a seven-year-old boy was beaten to death by his in Lahore’s Shalimar. His teacher had beaten the boy with an iron rod breaking the minor’s shoulder bone.
In January 2020, the Islamabad High Court imposed a ban on corporal punishment at education institutes across the country.
The court heard the plea of singer Shehzad Roy’s against corporal punishment in the country’s educational institutions.
Shehzad Roy lodged a petition asked for a ban on the use of violence as a means to discipline children in schools. The court ordered the interior ministry to take measures to guard the rights of children under Article 14 of the Constitution.
The judges of the court issued notices and wanted a reply on the issue from the federal government by 5 March.
