KARACHI: Two people, including a policeman, were injured and one robber arrested as police intercepted muggers in the Gulshan-e-Iqbal area of the metropolis.
According to a spokesman of the police, four muggers on two motorbikes were trying to loot citizens at gunpoint, when a police patrolling team intercepted them and exchanged fire with the criminals.
During the shootout, a policeman, Kashif sustained bullet injuries along with a man working at a milk shop in Gulshan-e-Iqbal.
The police managed in arresting one of the robbers’ accomplices, who opened fire on the cop and also recovered a TT-pistol from his possession.
Meanwhile, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sindh Dr Syed Kaleem Imam took notice of the incident and asked a detailed report into the incident from SSP East.
He also directed to ensure best available treatment to the injured cop. Kaleem Imam also instructed the authorities to nab the other accomplices of the arrested robber.
Earlier this month, a policeman was martyred and a dacoit was killed in a police encounter in Baldia Town area of the city.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) West had told a patrolling team of the police intercepted suspicious men in Karachi’s Ittehad Town and asked them to stop. The culprits, however, returned fire, forcing the law enforcement authority personnel to respond to it.
During the shootout, a policeman sustained bullet wounds and succumbed to his injuries while a dacoit was also killed at the spot.
