FAISALABAD: A cotton factory worker died when a roof of the factory collapsed due to fire at Faisalabad on Saturday.
According to police sources, the fire erupted in a cotton factory situated at Small State Road which spread to an adjoining industrial unit.
The roof the factory collapsed due to intensity of the fire. As a result, a 38-year-old worker Alam Zaib died. Receiving information about the incident seven fire vehicles reached to the site quickly and began operation to douse the flames.
Fire brigade officials said the blaze was brought under control after three hours of efforts. The officials further said that the fire erupted due to short-circuit in the ground floor of the factory. The process of cooling is currently underway.

Last week, a fire broke out at a railway warehouse near Wazirabad in Gujranwala district. According to fire officials, at least 10 fire tenders reached the spot and doused the fire.
They had said they have called in more fire engines to contain the blaze which is spreading further with winds fanning the flames.
Although multiple initiatives aimed at addressing workplace safety have been started in Pakistan since 2012, all of them have limited transparency and none have been enforceable.
Besides, none of them were developed with the participation of unions or other labour rights groups in Pakistan.
According to the reports, worker representation is missing not only in their design, but also in their implementation and governance.
