ISLAMABAD: A newly married couple has appealed to the authorities to provide them protection as their lives were in grave danger at the hands of landlords in Ghotki district Sindh.
According to details, a couple from Ghotki reached Islamabad after their relatives ordered to kill them for contracting a freewill marriage.
Ghulam Rasool Bhutto along his wife said that they married without permission from their elder, adding that some of their relatives and local landlords had declared them “karo-kari” and ordered their torture and murder for contracting a freewill marriage.
He said soon after the marriage, they started receiving life threats from some landlords, Noor Muhammad Bhutto and Ali Bux, who he alleged wanted to kill him and his wife on the pretext of ‘honour’.
Ghulam Rasool further said “My mother and father were tortured and expelled from the house and took away our livestock and shops, while my some relatives and former Minister of People’s Party Jam Mehtab Dhar and MNA Khalid Khan have made our lives difficult,” he added.
The couple said that they have fled to Islamabad to save lives and have sought protection from the chief justice of Pakistan and Sindh chief minister against life threats hurled by some landlords.
